About Brisbane City

Brisbane City is the central suburb of the City of Brisbane, postcode 4000. It recorded a population of 12,587 at the 2021 Census (ABS). It is worth separating two things that are often confused: the suburb of Brisbane City is the CBD itself, while the City of Brisbane is the wider local government area.
There are no schools inside the CBD. The nearest schools are in the neighbouring suburbs of Spring Hill and Fortitude Valley.
Getting around from the CBD
Central and Roma Street stations are both in the suburb, along with the Queen Street and King George Square busway stations and the Riverside, QUT Gardens Point and North Quay ferry terminals. Queen Street Mall is the main retail precinct.
The Kangaroo Point Bridge, which Brisbane City Council also refers to as the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge, opened on 15 December 2024 and lands in the CBD at the Alice Street and Edward Street intersection, a short walk from 204 Alice Street. It carries pedestrians and cyclists only.
A new underground station, Albert Street, is under construction in the CBD as part of Cross River Rail. An opening date has not been announced.
